Did Someone Say Sequel?

MOVIES! Who doesn’t love movies!? If we weren’t living in the digital age, and I didn’t live in a tiny apartment I would have a very impressive DVD/Blue Ray collection to show you guys. I guess I could do a screen shot of my iTunes library, or is that weird? Either way, movies are a love of mine. I binge watch more movies and tv series than anyone else I know. The only thing with me and movies is that I tend to like things more modern, no idea why but anything from like the 80’s or old just isn’t my cup of coffee.

This week’s prompt for 5 Fandom Friday is Favorite Sequels! Be sure to leave your’s in the comments! We can compare notes! (I have no idea why I’m such a nerd while writing today, haha.)

Fictional Men I’d Totally Marry

It’s time for another 5 Fandom Friday! This weeks prompt was 5 Fictional Husbands I’d totally Marry. I tweaked it just a bit and took out husband to just being men. It’s about to become very clear I have a thing for men that are ruthlessly brave,  have unwavering loyalty,  the courage to stand for truth and justice, that have a strong sense of family, and are a bit of a romantic. I actually learned a lot about myself doing this post. Like I knew these men were my favorites, but they all have very similar traits, which I did not realize.

Geekery of the Month: Get UR Niffler On

I saw Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them on opening day, as any good PotterHead should. I liked the movie, but I loved Niffler! Nifflers was actually mentioned in the Harry Potter books. I believe it was in the Order of the Phoenix; one was set loose in Umbrige’s office, which made her put extra security, and caused her to be able to catch Harry when he attempts to use her fireplace.
I feel like Niffler stole the screen when ever he was present. If there was a movie about the misadventures of that Niffler, I would go see it at least 3 times. That is how entertained I was by him. So to express my infatuation with him I made this everyday cosplay outfit.

Here are 5 that I’m really looking forward to!

The Girl of Steel

Halloween is a magical time of the year, the decorations, the candy, the parties. What’s not to love? The only thing that I’m actually not a fan of is dressing up- this relates to why I don’t cosplay either. I just don’t find it fun, or enjoyable, instead I tend to feel like I’ve messed the character up somehow and I’m not doing it justice.

The only character I actually want to dress up as is Supergirl. She is my favorite super hero. She made her DC comic book debut in 1959 and her first appearance in the new 52 was in 2011. For those unfamiliar with Supergirl she is the cousin of Superman, with all the same powers, but with the main difference of she was not raised here. She remembers Krypton, and misses her parents, family, friends, and world.

f8ba0ed7fea1734523635171ef731f0cLast year Supergirl appeared on TV in her own show, staring Melissa Benoist who also had a role on Glee (much like Grant Gustin, who plays Berry Allen on The Flash). The Supergirl TV show became the show I couldn’t get enough of and have been waiting patiently for season 2. I love the show for a few reasons:

  1. Female superhero- not over sexualized, a role model illustrating strengths & weakness that normal people deal with everyday, such as having the courage to stand up for what is right. Or pushing personal limits out of your comfort zone.
  2. Female empowerment- First of all Supergirl is a woman. Second: Cat Grant, Supergirl’s boss, a woman. Third: Lucy Lane, a woman high ranking in the military. Four: While not shown, the President is mentioned multiple times as “the president herself”, so female president. Not to mention the super badass ladies that are foes of Supergirl. All of these Women are strong characters who face everyday challenges and come out on the other side.
  3. Themes through out the show, such as hope- in humanity, in the world, in yourself. Such as you don’t have to take on the world by yourself, you can ask for help. Accepting help isn’t a weakness (this is something that I can learn a lot from). Such as being kind, humble, honest, following your heart are all good pursuits. That working hard pays off.
  4. In the TV show Kara is in her mid 20’s and she is super relatable to me, and I see so much of myself in her. Struggling with similar issues, figuring out what to do with her life. How to balance herself out. It’s nice to have a TV show like that.

If you haven’t seen Supergirl, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?! Just kidding, you can catch the new season of Supergirl on the CW (Monday’s at 7 PM Pacific time), and the first season is now on Netflix in the US.

Stranger Things Season 1

I have a TV, but I don’t have cable anymore. I haven’t for about 2 years now, and not that I really miss all the commercials, and flipping through channels. I do however hate having to wait until the next day to see whatever show I wanted to see. In the meantime though there is Netflix to comfort me. They are doing some really great stuff over there! Bringing things like Dare Devil, Jessica Jones, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, and most recently Stranger Things.

Stranger Things was released on July 15, 2015. It is a “TV” series in the horror, drama, mystery genera that takes place in the 80’s. They really captured the feel of the old TV shows and Movies really well, typically I don’t like older TV shows & movies, I’m not really sure why that is, it’s just kinda cringy for me. However this got a hold of my attention and wouldn’t let go. The basic premise they start with is that a boy is on his way from a friends house and he mysteriously goes missing, then his family, friends, and local police set out to find him. On their quest they are met with horrifying terrors that make them question their reality.

Accio Firebolt!

Camp is awesome!
and the BEST camp is IGGPPCamp! Registration is currently open to be placed in a troop. You could even be placed in my troop! Troop Firebolt is inspired by the magic of Harry Potter – from flying high in the sky to friendship adventures – with all the potions, charms, and magical creatures along the way. The troop motto: “I solemnly swear that I am up to no good” represents our troublemaking side and that natural ability to find ourselves in a pickle every once in awhile. We are a perfect combination of all the houses at Hogwarts, with a Slytherin and a Gryffindor leading the charge! (I’m the Gryffindor, lol)
You can read about the other troops here.  If you want to meet a bunch of super cool people and have a good time hanging out on the internet I highly recommend IGGPPCamp! Hope to see you in the mess hall!

The Firebolt

Back in the day, like 2005-ish, at some point, when the books were being released still. In the summers I was stuck on a tractor (my parents own a farm) in the hot sun all day long. Well that can drive anyone crazy, so I found a new cool thing called a Podcast (wow that makes me sound old!), specifically MuggleCast, which covered any and all news, & fan theories about Harry Potter. One day they were talking about Harry and the Potters and The Moaning Myrtles, turns out they were bands that made music about Harry Potter. It changed my life- and helped me keep my sanity in the summer!

Here are some of my favorites from back in the day + some of their new stuff that I didn’t know about and is awesome!

The Flash Invaded By A Slytherin

Has anyone else heard that dear little Draco Malfoy is joining the cast of The Flash? Tom Felton who played Draco Malfoy throughout the Harry Potter movies was announced earlier this summer that he would be joining the cast of The Flash as Julian Dorn, as something of a healthy rival to Berry Allen.
