Why Vanilla Ice Cream Is My Fav…

It’s been a while, guys! But with summer winding down I want to start blogging more, and by more I mean to get back into making posts about geeky stuff and food and life stuff plus the youtube videos I do now so, there should be lots of content coming at you! Today I thought I would start off with something really silly. Mostly because I stared a blank screen for half an hour with no idea of where/how to start a post, and then it popped into my head!

Let’s chat about ice cream!

Vanilla ice cream really is my favorite flavor of ice cream. Some would say this is lame, boring, even basic… yuuup, I agree. But the reason I like it so much is, yes plain vanilla is da bomb, but I love to add fresh blueberries to it, or peaches, or hot fudge, or caramel, or marshmallows, or peanut butter cups, I could go on and on. My point is that you can add so much to it that it’s a good starting place.

You can’t go wrong with vanilla ice cream. You just can’t which is why I think it’s a little bit magical.

Did you know the top five flavors (at Baskin Robbins at least) in the United States are:

  • Vanilla
  • Mint Chocolate Chip
  • Pralines ‘N Cream
  • Oreo Cookies ‘N Cream
  • Chocolate

(Check out this nifty map of the US in ice cream favorite flavors, I got it from this site here if you want to read the article)

Other popular flavors include butter pecan, rocky road, strawberry, and chocolate chip.

What is your favorite flavor of ice cream? Have you ever tried making ice cream or frozen yogurt at home?

Alright, what about cones? There are so many options when it comes to cones! Just to name a few there are wafer (cake) cones, waffle cones, sugar cones, cones that are dipped in chocolate, pretzel cones, and double wafer cones.

So this might be surprising but umm, I actually prefer a bowl… weird I know. Here’s what I do; I ask for my order normally, in whichever cone I want then I ask for a bowl and spoon, usually I get a weird look, but I’m used to it by now, so the person working is usually like “that will be 10 cents more,” or whatever, I say that’s fine and they hand me the bowl then I take my cone and turn it upside down in the bowl. They usually stare in shock and horror at what I’ve just done, but I just say “no mess this way” and go about on way.

I hate drips from cones, or messy napkins or just whatever mess can happen with a cone in a car driving home. It’s never anything good and usually sticky. This way I get to enjoy my cone and not have a mess on my hands to deal with. Win-win.

What is your favorite cone or are you like me and get bowls?

The last thing we gotta talk about is mixing and toppings! As I mentioned earlier vanilla ice cream is my favorite because it’s the base of greatness. My favorite mix-ins and toppings include bananas, peanuts, caramel, and chocolate sauce as one creation of ooey-gooey-goodness.

What are some of your favorite toppings and mix-ins?

Let me know the answers to any or all of the questions throughout this post down in the comments or we can chat on twitter! I think this ice-breaker of a post went really well! I can’t wait to have more posts for you guys!

  1. My favourite flavour is chocolate, but I also love mint choc chip, peanut butter, chocolate fudge brownie, salted caramel, and raspberry ripple. I’m dying to try coffee ice cream. I love wafer or waffle cones, but a bowl’s good too. Sometimes you just want cooling ice cream, and no crunchy cone. 🙂 For toppings I love raspberry or chocolate sauce, or something like hot fudge. The mixture of hot and cold is amazing. I’m not a fan of those crunchy rice balls in ice cream (they go soggy!).
