Magically Mythical

One of my favorite parts of the Harry Potter universe are the magically mythical creatures that Harry encounters. The Muggle world is so mundane, so every time Harry encountered a new creature it was a thrill for me while I read the books. These are my top five.

Unicorns: Unicorns are my ultimate magical creature! In the HP universe they are still considered something of a rare site, and very pure. Unicorns are fun, they can be silly, or really beautiful. They can be anything you want them to be, which in someways is part of their magic outside of the HP world.

Mermaids: The Harry Potter version of Merpeople is really rather dark compared to how we have come to think of them, which I really like. Taking notes from their ancestors Sirens , HP Merpeople are mysterious, beautiful, and deadly. Sounds like a killer combination to me! (I couldn’t help myself with the pun!)

Centaurs: Since first reading about Firenze, I have always thought that having a Centaur friend would be really cool. All the things they could teach me, how to read the stars, and maybe even how to take a peek into the future. To bad they basically think Humans are below them. If I could had their gifts I’m not sure I wouldn’t feel the same, plus silly people like Umbridge exist which doesn’t help anything.

Ghosts: Every culture has a different take on Ghosts, in HP “A ghost is the disembodied spirit of a once-living wizard or witch. Only magical beings can become ghosts. Many ghosts take up residence within Hogwarts Castle. These fleshless spirits were either afraid of death or have some extraordinarily strong connection to the locations they haunt.”- HP Wiki. I think the take that only magical being can become ghosts is really unique and interesting.

Fluffy: Dogs are man’s best friend right? I love my (I have an adorable German Shepard) so a giant three headed dog sounds great! Especially one that is nice and fierce! I think Hagrid and I would be best friends with our common interest of love for animals.
