Amazon announced this new niffty thing, if you’ve got Amazon Prime ($99 per year), then you have access to their latest perk. 20% off pre-orders and newly released games (up to two weeks after they are released).
This is great! 20% off that’s a ton of money if you buy games a lot. But, here’s the down side (you were all just waiting for the “but” weren’t you?) this offer is only good for physical copies of games. I tend to buy digital downloads. I live in a small apartment, haven’t got a ton of room for things such as dvds, games, books, etc. so digital downloads are like my favorite thing. So I fear I will not be taking advantage of this all that much. I might if they extend the deal to 3DS games, but even then I usually buy digital downloads.
More and more people are turning to digital downloads, which is fine, it’s also fine if you prefer physical copies. Amazon probably left digital downloads out because Amazon’s sales are down in physical copies of video games (speculation, I really have no idea), and it makes me sad to not be able to take advantage of this deal.
It will be interesting to see how this develops over the next year and if they will eventually add in digital copies.
