Dead Man’s Party

I finally saw the third episode of Shadowhunters, and I liked it more than the first two episodes. I think what a lot of people forget is that this show is based off the book. It’s not the book or the movie, it’s something that is stand alone. Sure it has the same characters, and basic story line, but along the way things are going to be different. I know it’s hard to not compare things, but I feel in order to give this show the best chance people need to stop holding it up to the book.

The reason books are so great is because we can use our imagination, and create the perfect world within our heads. In TV (and movies) there are script writers, actors, make up artists, costumes, set design, directors, and so many more that come together and put on a show, instead of just you and the author.

Books, Books, Books, Books! ~January~

This month I read quite a few books! Pat on the back for me. Normally I do not read, at all. Life just seems to get in the way. Which is a bad excuse, because if one is serious about something then one can make time. One of my new years goals is to read 40 books. All I have to do is read about 3.5 books per month, I would say I’m well on my way to my goal.

This month I read:

I Hate Fairyland #1-4 by Skottie Young

I wanted to read this comic when it was first released but it just started coming out on kindle, and they were on sale for 99 cents so how could I not?

I fluffing love this comic, from the art style to the word choice! I am thinking of getting the physical copies because of how vibrant the colors of the world are in this comic. I also think it’s super interesting plot line for having a 30 year old trapped in a body of a six year old. This comic made me want to see her normal life as well, if she ever makes it out of Fairyland how would her parents & family react?

STK649673Teen Dog #1 by Jake Lawrence

This was what the Iggle Comic Alliance read for the trade of the month. It was very entertaining! Made me feel like I was reading something from Nickelodeon’s Doug from back in the 90’s. What I did not like about this was that there wasn’t really any reason to keep reading into the next issue. Not that I didn’t like it but, that there was not enough story line, or plot developed, instead it seemed to be focused on character development which was really fine. So I don’t know if I’m going to keep reading this series or not yet.

aftermath_new.6.red_Aftermath by Chuck Wendig

With all the hub bub from The Force Awakens my boyfriend and I joined a Star Wars book club. He was kept up with it way better than me. But Star Wars isn’t really my cup of coffee. I listened to the audio book for this one, and sure all the sounds effects helped but over all the book was super boring to me. 😦 But I tried. I think next month I’m gonna try and read some Star Wars comics… *sigh*

nimona_finalNimona by Noelle Stevenson

I’ve wanted to read this for freaking ever! So I finally did! If you like spunk, dragons, and symbolism then you’ll love this book just as I did. Nimona is a spunky character & I found out that Noelle Stevenson is also responsible for Lumberjanes-one of my favorite comics ever! I think also seeing things from the “villains” point of view is something not a lot of authors do, so it was good to have that new variety.

tumblr_nr6rlhiA261rkciaro1_1280Daughter of Smoke & Bone by Laini Taylor

I decided to read this series after watching a YouTuber do a review about them. They sounded right up my ally and I wasn’t wrong. I really liked that Karou was an art student, and I think the concept of angels & demons just living in another dimension and actually not having a whole lot to do with our common placed theories or lore about them was really refreshing. I am differently going to continue to read the series.

Please feel free to add me as a goodreads friend! I would love to be yours!

I’m Just Not That Into You

There is a never ending supply of TV shows these days, with so much choice some shows just fall through the cracks. For me there are these shows that tons of people adore and love, but I just can’t get into, so I’m not even late- I never arrived to these shows party trains. Here’s my top 5 I’m just not that into you TV Shows.

  1. Breaking Bad

“When chemistry teacher Walter White is diagnosed with Stage III cancer and given only two years to live, he decides he has nothing to lose. He lives with his teenage son, who has cerebral palsy, and his wife, in New Mexico. Determined to ensure that his family will have a secure future, Walt embarks on a career of drugs and crime. He proves to be remarkably proficient in this new world as he begins manufacturing and selling methamphetamine with one of his former students. The series tracks the impacts of a fatal diagnosis on a regular, hard working man, and explores how a fatal diagnosis affects his morality and transforms him into a major player of the drug trade.”- Breaking Bad IMDB page.

I’ve actually seen (mostly) the episodes because my boyfriend and his friends were SUPER into this show. I, on the other hand was not. I dreaded having to watch this every week. I couldn’t relate to the characters or the plot, so no emotional attachment was formed which I think is the biggest reason I couldn’t get into the show. Now that’s not to say the show was bad, because I’m fully aware that it’s magic, it just wasn’t magic for me.

2. The Walking Dead

“Rick Grimes is a former Sheriff’s deputy who has been in a coma for several months after being shot while on duty. When he awakens he discovers that the world has been ravished by a zombie epidemic of apocalyptic proportions, and that he seems to be the only person still alive. After returning home to discover his wife and son missing, he heads for Atlanta to search for his family. Narrowly escaping death at the hands of the zombies on arrival in Atlanta he is aided by another survivor, Glenn, who takes Rick to a camp outside the town. There Rick finds his wife Lori and his son, Carl, along with his partner/best friend Shane and a small group of survivors who struggle to fend off the zombie hordes; as well as competing with other surviving groups who are prepared to do whatever it takes to survive in this harsh new world.” – The Walking Dead IMDB page.

I watched the first season, it was ok. When the second season aired I had completely forgotten about it, and moved on to other shows. For me this show moves at a snails pace and is really boring for me. That and I don’t really like zombies. I do enjoy The Walking Dead Comics & TellTale video game, just not the TV show. 😦

3. The Office

“A remake of the hit 2001 BBC TV series The Office (2001), this is a mockumentary that documents the exploits of a paper supply company in Scranton, Pennsylvania. Made up of head chief Michael Scott, a harmlessly deluded and ignorantly insensitive boss who cares about the welfare of his employees while trying to put his own spin on company policy. With an office including the likes of various peers who have their own hangups, The Office (2005) takes a look at the lives of its co-workers: bored but talented salesman Jim, his mildly sociopathic, butt kissing enemy Dwight, mildly righteous receptionist Pam, and indifferent temp Ryan.” -The Office IMDB page.

My boyfriend really likes this show, I honestly have no idea if new episodes are still coming out or not. I’ve seen like two episodes, but they were so cringe, and it just really turned me off.

4. South Park

“The curious, adventure-seeking, fourth grade group of boys, Stan, Kyle, Cartman, and Kenny, all join in in buffoonish adventures that sometimes evolve nothing. Sometimes something that was simple at the start, turns out to get out of control. Everything is odd in the small mountain town, South Park, and the boys always find something to do with it.”- South Park IMDB page.

Animation is so strange for me, I honestly don’t like animated adult shows like south park. The only full episode of Full park I have seen is the one where they play the MMO online that is suppose to be WoW. I’m not sure why I don’t find these shows funny, I know lots of people do. I guess my favorite type of humor is like 5 year old humor, and is really corny.

5. The Simpsons

“The Simpsons is an animated sitcom about the antics of a dysfunctional family called the Simpsons (surprise surprise). Homer is the oafish unhealthy beer loving father, Marge is the hardworking homemaker wife, Bart is the ten year old underachiever (and proud of it), Lisa is the unappreciated eight year old genius, and Maggie is the cute, pacifier loving silent infant.” -The Simpsons IMDB page.

Another animated show. The Simpsons, I feel like it’s a crime not to like this show but I just can’t. Ironically the episodes I’ve seen were in school, for “educational” purposes…like that episode about Edgar Allen Poe’s “The Raven”. I think it’s just too crude for me.

DC’s Legends of Tomorrow Premier Thoughts

SPOILER WARNING! ~Major Spoilers Ahead~

DC’s Legends of Tomorrow Premiered last week, and I finally saw it over the weekend. Since I don’t have cable I didn’t really know about this show, which I guess was good, since I didn’t have any expectations. I decided to watch it because I like Arrow & The Flash.

The show focuses on a team of misfits, assembled by Rip Hunter, who has traveled back in time to the present day to attempt to prevent Vandal Savage from destroying the world and taking over time. I like that they quickly introduced the recruits for the the team. There is The Atom (Brandon Routh) who has been on both the Arrow & The Flash. White Canary (Caity Lotz) from Arrow, she was initially the vigilante know as “Canary” in Arrow season 2, she was killed in season 3 & resurrected in season 4, she is partially based on the DC comic character Black Canary.

Firestorm (Professor Martin Stein-Victor Garber- and Jefferson “Jax” Jackson-Franz Drameh) I didn’t like that they replaced Ronnie, but still hint that he is around, I just like his character better with the Professor. Maybe in time I’ll get use to it. Hawkgirl (Cira Renee) and Hawkman (Falk Hentschel) who are apparently some kind of deitys who are reincarnated time after time through out the centuries. As far as superheroes their back story was the one that was a bit odd to me, but for the pilot episode it is also the back story that is in the spotlight. Probably because not a lot of people know about either of these characters. Lastly we have the a lovely couple of villains Captain Cold (Wentworth Miller) and Heat Wave (Dominic Purcell) who I am the most excited to see. They are probably the biggest reason I decided to watch the show. I loved them in the Flash.

There was a ton of cross over in this first episode which I really liked. I really love seeing different heroes popping into each others cities and lives. Guests included Green Arrow, Black Canary, Flash, and Carlos Valdes from the Flash.

From the first episode we found out that Rip Hunter had some hidden motives to putting the team together, which no one takes kindly to, and we learn about Hawkgirl & Hawkman’s origin story. Along with getting to know our number one bad guy, the whole reason the team is brought together, to bring down Vandal Savage (Casper Crump) who is apparently a 4,000 year old immortal who has manipulated leaders throughout history in an attempt to gain dominion over the entire world. His origin story is also tied into Hawkgirl & Hawkman’s.

I thought they did a good job with time travel, it could be pretty tricky to pull off, even with special effects. My favorite part probably had to be the bar fight. Having Captain Cold, Heat Wave, & White Canary getting into a good bar fight is always enjoyable. I also thought the only real action scene was after the bar fight. We get to see the team fight “together” for the first time. I say “together” because they are in the same space, but they weren’t working together, like a real team would, and how could they? They were just thrown together. But I thought the action was of high production level, something you would see in a movie.

The biggest negative for me was some of the lines the actors had to say. Such as when Rip was trying to convince them to join his cause, he says something to the effect of “Destined for greatness,” to which The Atom responds “I could get behind that.” It just seemed a bit corny, and not in a funny way, cause I love funny corny things. Another example of this is when Hawkgirl and Hawkman are arguing over wether or not they should join Rip and his cause. Hawkman says something along the lines of “Winner gets to decide little lady,” then they flew at each other implying the had some sort of epic battle. It just felt really out of place.

I’m not really sure if I’m going to watching this show as it’s aried. I might wait for it to come to Netflix and binge watch it like I have with Green Arrow & The Flash.

The Magicians Premier Impressions

The Magicians premiered last night, January 25, 2016, the show is based on the novel, by Lev Grossman. The premise of the show is Quentin Coldwater enrolls at Bakerbills College for Magical Pedagogy to be trained as a magician, where he discovers that the magical world from his favorite childhood friend Julia is derailed when she is denied entry, and she searches for magic elsewhere.

For not having cable, I sure do watch a lot! In the opening scenes we meet Quentin (Jason Ralph) and find out his having a hard time going on in life, but he has an up coming interview. We also meet Julia (Stella Maeve) who Quentin is attracted to but Julia has a boyfriend. The interview ends up being a bust, in which a dead body is discovered- who turns out was diabetic shock-but them magic starts happening.

Before they know it, Quentin and Julia find themselves taking the entrance exam to Bakerbills. There were a few moments as the show continued on, such as Eliot Waugh (Hale Appleman) says something to the effect “That’s what they don’t tell you, magic doesn’t come from talent, it comes from pain” I thought that was such a unique idea to present to an audience in the pilot episode.

We also get to meet our villain, referred to as the Beast, he appears with a ton of moths flying around him, so we never see his face. Very mysterious! We learn that this guy is a good old fashioned meanie, and he has an not so epic battle with the “headmaster” (I’m not sure if he actually was the headmaster of the school) and the headmaster looses big time. His injuries result in loosing his sight and use of his hands. But he’s not dead so thats something!

We also start to see something that is called Battle Magic, I’m going to assume it’s a class of spells that when casted do signifiant harm. The students at the school are not to cast them as our hero, Quentin, finds out.

One of the characters I really liked was Alice, if you’ve read the book, it’s apparently common to think it was a miss casting, but I really liked her. She reminded me of an older Alice in Wonderland. I also thought the special effects they did for her creating a mini horse out of ice was super stinking cool.

Actually all of the special effects were really on point. I like that we are now to this place where high quality special effects can be in a tv show, not just in movies. Especially in a show that is about magic, those special effects could make it or break it.

What I don’t like/I don’t understand is the sub-story line of Julia. Julia failed the entrance exam and wasn’t allowed into the school. They erased her memory, but she cut her arm so she would remind herself magic was real. Then she freaks her boyfriend out by acting weird, and finally she end up in a meat locker cutting some dead dudes gut open for mutton to cast a spell with. I just don’t understand where it’s going or why I should care. For me I am far more interested in Quentin & friend’s story. After two episodes I should know why I care about Julia and her story and I just don’t.

I was also impressed in the script writing for the show, there wasn’t really anything corny or over the top, it all kinda seemed real, as in it could happen in real life and my friends and I could have those same conversations. Which I found very refreshing, and hope the writers continue with.

I am very interested to see where this show goes, and to maybe go read that book it’s based off of now (because it’s not like I don’t have a ton of books I’m reading right now or anything! haha). I think out of the new shows I have watched recently, this is the one I am the most impressed with and left wanting to find out more. Not just about the story and characters but also the world in which the characters live.

The Wild World of Stationary

I got into stationary when I joined IGGPPC, before, when I was little I always wanted to write letters, but I had no one to write to (depressing I know). So When I started reviewing letters they were on the cutest paper, and had get stickers, and there was this new washi tape thing! So I started looking in my local area for all these things, stationary & washi tape was easy enough to find, but the actual paper I was out of luck. So I took to the internet and started following things like cutestationary on tumblr and started finding site through them to get adorable stationary from. Since then I have sorta a go to list for when I want to replenish my supply. So I thought I would just share some of my favorites for those who are looking for new shops to try, or for new letter writers who are experiencing something similar to what I did.

Paper Source is a premier paperie and gift retailer in the United States. They sell stationary, wedding invitations, custom announcements, calendars and planners, distinctive gifts, gift wrap, fine papers, greeting cards, party supplies, paper craft kits, stamps, and crafting supplies. This is a rather new find for me, I found it off a recommendation from a YouTuber who was reviewing some of their planners in a New Year’s video. It was an instant win for me once I found how much unicorn-type things the had. I will admit they are a bit spendy, but if you are looking for something that is unique, and you can add a personal touch to then I would say start here. This is where I got my valentines from for this year- and I am super stoked about them-I also got some washi tape that was on clearance, which was actually very reasonable.

Amazon is actually a great place to either find inspiration for stationary or to buy stationary from. At first it was really hard to find stationary on amazon, but eventually the search results got better.

Etsy Stores:

Image from My Fairy World’s etsy store.

My Fairy World has an excellent starting kit for writing letters. Each kit comes with 14 pre-printed fairy letters for all occasions 5 rainbow-coloured miniature envelopes 1 miniature message pad 1 message in a bottle with paper 1 felt letter holder assorted stickers confetti clouds 1 bottle of sparkle glitter masking tape confetti hearts 1 twig pencil for authentic fairy writing 5 tiny leaf die cuts. The only down side is the shop is in Australia, so shipping will take a while, but the total cost to where I live would be about $47 (including shipping) which really isn’t that bad! I really love this kit not only for the theme but also for the things you get in the kit. It’s all the essentials you need to start with- washi tape, stationary paper, envelopes, plus some great extras.

Image from boygirlparty’s etsy store

boygirlparty has a great selection of journals, stationary, to do lists, notepads, and cards (along with non related stationary items). I had been seeing their products online for maybe a few months but I could never find a link back to their Etsy store, which, as you can imagine, was very frustrating. Until Owlcrate teamed up with them, I don’t get that crate but I watched a youtube unboxing of it and saw what the store was called so I could finally place an order! I got a super adorable to do list, and some adorable stationary. I’m so happy I could finally order and they have quickly found a place on my stationary go to list. This shop is in California, and shipping for me was very timely (especially since I’m in Oregon, it really didn’t have that far to go!).

Image from Mushypinkstrawberryz’s etsy store.

Mushypinkstrawberryz is an adorable shop that sells Korean stationary. They are based out of Texas so shipping is good. I love browsing this shop just to get inspiration to what is out there. Japan & South Korea have such a great stationary scene its ridiculous. I know if I ever visit those countries I will bring back so much stationary and kawaii items!

Sea Salt & Paper is a great source for planner stuff & washi tape. I got some gold pumpkin washi tape around Halloween time and it was so good. The store is in England so it takes about 2 weeks to get delivered. The shop owner is super nice, and included this like really cute bird stickies for free, which was a lovely surprise.

Image from Hello Quirky’s etsy store.

Hello Quirky is sticker central for any of my geeky needs. I found Hello Quirky through the IGGPPC Summer Camp Kit 2015, they had some stickers included, and I fell in love with the style. Since then I have made multiple purchases of stickers and always had the best experience. Hello Quirky also had/has an Society 6 shop that I got an amazing Unicorn Mug & iPhone case from, I love them so much! Hello Quirky ships from Texas with free shipping (from Etsy store) which is freaking amazing! Who doesn’t love free shipping?! I also love buying from Hello Quirky and supporting a fellow Iggle in their business + creative pursuits. ❤

Weekend Binge of Choice

Who doesn’t love Netflix? Nor who can say they haven’t binged watched their way through a show over a weekend. I am guilty of both counts. I no longer have cable, but love tv shows, so I watch everything online. Making Netflix a very large source of entertainment. So I thought I would share my top 5 binge & repeate shows (the ones I can go back to over and over and over and they never get tired or old).

  1. Supernatural

“Two brothers witness their mother’s paranormal death and are trained to fight by their father, who aims to hunt down the thing that killed his wife.”

I started watching Supernatural when it aired in 2005, when I was in high school and could watch all the cable I wanted (those were the days!) I started watching it because I am an avid fan of Gilmore Girls and Jared Padalecki (who played Dean in Gilmore Girls) plays Sam Winchester. But I soon found out this show was completly diffrent then Gilmore Girls! There are tons of things I love about the show or that made me fall in love with the show. One of which being Dean’s car a 1967 Chevy Impala- who could not love that-so classic! Now in it’s 11th season, I get to eagerly await the release of new seasons to Netflix, and be warry of being spoiled by the internet of what is happening in the show.

2. Chopped.

When I did have cable I use to come home and flip the tv on to food network. It’s great background noise, and if you actually want to watch then it can become very addicting. Chopped is a reality-based cooking game show serise that pits four chefs against each other competing for a grand prize of $10,000.

3. The X Files.

The X-Files, watching them as a child I was a bit freaked out, but then they were put on Netflix and I have seen all the episodes four times now. Orginally premiering in 1993, and ending in 2002, the show has two main characters FBI special agents Fox Mulder & Dana Scully. Together they investigate X-Files, or rather marginalized, unsolved cases involving the paranormal. If your crazy about the X-Files then it’s worth noting that Sunday, January 24, a six-episode miniserise will air on Fox.

4. Bones.

I started watching this show because of my mom, she freaking loves this show! Then I realized David Boreanaz (who played Angel-on his own show + in Buffy the Vampire Slayer) was in it, and I was hooked. The series is loosely based on the life and writings of novelist and forensic anthropologist Kathy Reichs who also produces the show. The show followsTemperance “Bones” Brennan and Special Agent Seeley Booth who solve FBI cases involving human remains.

5. Ghost Adventures.

I love scary things, I love the entire horror genera. Soooo of course I would binge watch Ghost Adventures! I started watching Ghost Adventures when I was in high school, with my best friend. Every Friday night we would have pizza or burritos and Jamba Juice and settle in to watch the new episode. The show follows ghost hunters Zak Bagans, Nick Groff, and Aaron Goodwin as they investigate locations that are reported to be haunted. I think I also find the whole idea of capturing paranormal things fascinating, despite how overly dramatic Zak is (tho it has gotten a bit better as the seasons go on..).

Moodboard Your Year ~Birchbox~

I really love their box designs.

Birchbox is a beauty subscription box, very similar to Boxycharm, but with a price difference of Birchbox only costing $10 per month. This is often a more affordable option for a lot of people. I started getting Birchbox last January (I’ve been subscribed for a WHOLE Year! Wow! That went fast!) and in that time I have found that I like the perks of getting this box than actually receiving the physical box.

Perks? What perks? Well when you join Birchbox you started

all products from this months box

acquiring points based on how much you spend. For every dollar spent you get a point, and at 100 points you get $10 to spend in the store. So basically you get 10% back. You can also save those points up and use them on one really nice something that maybe you wouldn’t get otherwise. I do this a lot. If there is something in the shop that I want to try but don’t think I would like it completely, I’ll use my points so I feel like I haven’t spent anything at all. You can also earn points by reviewing products you receive in your monthly box.

Another really cool perk to the Birchbox Subscription is they will have add ons, such as planners, card sets, jewelry, home accessories, etc. that you can add on to your box for that month, usually those products are at a discounted price.

For those who love Birchbox and earn 500+ points in one calendar year, they become an Ace.  Aces get free shipping, concierge service, exclusive shop offers, anniversary gifts, and surprises. I really like their program I think it’s really great, compared to others that are out there.

On to the box!

ACAC Series 2 Is Coming!

Animal Crossing Project .jpgPlease tell me I’m not the only one who is like super stinking excited for this!?!

I finished my Series 1 collection in November, so it took me about a month to get all the cards which is pretty good! I think the most interesting part was seeing all the trade sites pop up. I got half of my cards through trading. It was such a great experience, not only did I get to trade with awesome people but I also made some new friends!

Last time I went running all over my city and the right next to me looking for series one, which while fun, also took up most of my day. So this time around I have new game plan! (Because I love to make plans, I also love making lists!)

I am going to the GameStop in the city next to mine because they are a larger one, and get more stock generally. Last time they also did not have rules about how many packs you could buy. Then if I don’t get 10 packs (min, 14 packs max) from there I will be going to the GameStop in my town to see how many I can get. I have pre-ordered 6 packs from Amazon, which are scheduled to be delivered on the 22nd, which is pretty cool. Last time I had to wait like 3-5 days after to get them, so it’s cool Amazon has their act together. I also went to Walmart’s site to pre-order, only to find that I could only order 1 pack so I didn’t even waste my time on that. If it turns out to be worst case scenario, & I can’t get any cards from GameStop then I will be getting more from Amazon. (Apparently Target also will have them, but I doubt the one in my area does…)

I plan on getting a total of 20 packs, I did the same last time. Which is around $120, and 120 cards which I feel super comfortable with. I put Christmas money aside for Series 2 as well as Series 3, umm so thanks relatives for supplying money for my addiction problem. 😀

Once I get all my packs I am going to do a pack opening video (which I am super excited about!), I should have done one for series one but I just never thought about it. At that time I will also be updating my trading site, click here to see it, it’s just a little place where I can keep track of trades, and what I have to offer.

For the next two days I am going feel like I have ants in my pants, with so much build up of excitement! Is it the 22nd yet??
